Restaurant Review: Bubbledogs

Way way back in December we decided to bite the bullet and queue in one of London's most famous lines of recent times...
The Queue at Bubbledogs
Bubbledogs is a strange concept...hot dogs and champagne. Not the most obvious of bed fellows. But one that sounded amazing nonetheless. When we arrived around 6.30pm there was a queue that didn't look too daunting, but inside there are a very small number of covers.

A waitress came down the line to take our names and said it was about an hour. Luckily there was no rain, just the regular freezing cold winter chill. Just over an hour later we were in and seated right on the bar.

The menu is on blackboards above the bar - lucky we were sitting close enough so my terrible eyes could read it! Most of the dogs sounded amazing. We were spoilt for choice so decided to go for three different ones and split the middle one.

First up we opted for the easy part - sides. tater tots and sweet potato fries. I have always had a strange fascination with tater tots. I thought they would be those smiley face potatoes you get in bags in the freezer aisle (yet would never dream of buying). Turns out they are actually like little hash browns. Delicious.

The main hotdoggy event - standard onion and sauerkraut (New Yorker), chili dog (Sloppy Joe) and a 4th Of July. You also have the choice between pork and beef hotdogs. We went for a mixture. Turns out the beef is much nicer than the pork. It feels much 'meatier'. The pork ones are pretty much your standard frankfurter you get anywhere. Actually a little bit disappointing. We were also worries the size was going to be too big and we had ordered too much. Turns out the dogs are pretty small., so we needn't have worried.

What to accompany these little dogs? Champagne of course. The selection was good and really reasonably priced.

Overall the atmosphere was nice and there was a good selection of toppings on the dogs. On the downsides, the dogs are small and the pork was pretty standard. Worth the hour wait? Maybe.

  2. The sides look fab, but I just don't think I could bring myself to queue for more than 30mins max.
